Bill Reported to Restore Protections to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Moose in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by USFWS

Last week, the House Natural Resources passed a bill out of committee on a vote of 22-14 to restore protections to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In December 2017, the tax bill opened the refuge to seismic testing and oil and gas leasing and changed the purpose of the refuge to include oil and gas exploration. The “Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act”, H.R. 1146, is critical for keeping this iconic wildlife refuge free of oil and gas exploration and to protect wildlife species.

We appreciate the votes of the Committee members who voted in favor of this bill, and of course, the hard work of Congressman Jared Huffman, who sponsored it. The following committee members voted in favor of the bill

Rep. Raul Grijalva, AZ, Chairman

Rep. Jared Huffman, CA

Rep. Grace Napolitano, CA

Rep. Debbie Dingell, MI

Rep. Gregorio Sablan, Northern Mariana Islands

Rep. Ruben Gallego, AZ
